Arcade, is an asynchronous player-versus-puzzle gaming framework, where people create puzzles with a toll, and reward those who successfully solve them. With our smart contracts, we're introducing a new paradigm of crypto gaming, one that's uniquely enabled by crypto payment rails making the gameplay more exciting.
For a crypto game to succeed, it needs a compelling reason to incorporate blockchain technology beyond just hype. Many early crypto games have relied on the Play-to-Earn model, which has proven to be unsustainable. The primary issue with Play-to-Earn is that the rewards often come from token inflation rather than genuine economic activity, leading to eventual collapse.
For a game to be sustainable, the yield must come directly from other players, not from artificial token inflation. This leads to the natural conclusion of Player vs. Player (PvP) mechanics, where players compete against each other for rewards. However, implementing PvP games on-chain presents a challenge: the current player base is not large enough to guarantee real-time matchups, as not enough players are online simultaneously.
The solution is asynchronous PvP, or what we call PvZ (Player vs. Puzzle). This model allows players to engage with puzzles at their own pace, without requiring real-time interactions, solving the scalability problem under a sustainable yield structure.
Arcade is designed to be a flexible, decentralized gaming framework that allows independent game providers to leverage its capabilities. By deploying the Arcade framework themselves and setting themselves as the owner, game providers gain full control over the business built using the Arcade framework.
Game providers are responsible for the complete gaming experience, including the front-end user interface and the back-end logic. This allows them to customize the gaming environment, integrate additional tools or services, and create unique game styles to engage their player base.
The first game provider to adopt the Arcade framework is Witty and is operated by the same team. Witty will launch a series of games that utilize the player versus puzzle format enabled by Arcade. Their integration highlights how game providers can use the Arcade framework to craft their own engaging experiences.
